We transform local communities through our trusted partnerships and innovative leisure services.
GLL is the UK’s largest public leisure provider — and the only one operating at scale as a co-operative and charitable social enterprise. We manage over 254 leisure centres, swimming pools, gyms and wellbeing hubs across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Every facility is run on behalf of a local authority, with all surplus reinvested back into community services.
For over 30 years, we’ve combined trusted delivery with a not-for-profit ethos. Our model supports financially sustainable services, protects public access to health and wellbeing, and helps keep valuable community assets open and thriving.
Some of the centres we manage are flagship venues welcoming hundreds of thousands each year. Others serve smaller communities - often as the only affordable space for residents to stay active, recover from illness or connect with others. All play a vital role in tackling health inequalities and reducing pressure on health and care systems.
Better is GLL’s public gateway for leisure services - where people book activities and connect locally through accessible options that help them stay active and engaged.
No two communities are the same, and neither are the services we deliver. We work closely with councils, local health systems and residents to shape services around real need; from targeted health programmes and inclusive pricing to co-located services that bring activity, health and support under one roof. Whether it’s free swimming for under-16s, GP referral schemes or school holiday food programmes, we design services to reach every part of the community.
We operate to the highest standards of compliance, quality and environmental responsibility - including ISO 14001 and Quest accreditation. Our impact is measured and reported, from energy savings to participation growth and social return. In one London borough alone, our services generate over £30 million in annual social value through improved health, wellbeing and reduced demand on the NHS.
We focus on long-term public benefit, not short-term profit. As a worker-owned co-operative, we’re rooted in communities and accountable to the public. Local authorities work with us for our national expertise and economies of scale, without sacrificing local relevance or control. Whether revitalising ageing facilities or delivering frontline services with warmth and consistency, we act as trusted delivery partners, helping build healthier, more resilient communities.
